Counting down the days

There are exactly 31 days, 11 hours and 41 minutes remaining until Classic is released, not that I’m counting.

I mentioned in my first post that I’d check out the latest retail patch (Tides of Vengeance) to try and pass some time whilst waiting for the real game. So last week I grabbed a beer or two, re-installed everything and jumped back into the World of Warcraft for the first time in a while.

My intention was to create a post full of screenshots and little stories about exploring the new zones and quests, much like I plan to do with Classic. I realised very quickly after logging in that this wasn’t going to work with retail, the pacing is far too quick for anything to be meaningful or exciting.

Within the first hour I’d already killed a world boss with 20 or so other players that I was basically thrown into a group with. The whole thing was over in a few minutes, I was rewarded with Tidal Lurker’s Greathelm (a pretty sizeable upgrade for me) and all the while not a single word was said in chat before the group abruptly disbanded.

They say that the definition of insanity is repeating the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Retail is just the same old hamster wheel that I remember it to be, I’m not sure why I thought it would be any different this time around. I’m also ever so slightly annoyed that I re-subscribed earlier than I needed to for Classic, oh well.

With that in mind, posts will probably be pretty scarce between now and launch day – sorry!

Weird flex but ok

I was in a cleaning kind of mood today. Cut the grass, washed the car and cleaned the whole house. Then it hit me, my bank(s) are a total fucking mess. Yeah, that’s right – I felt compelled to clean my virtual storage too.

That’s not what this post is about, don’t worry.

In the process of going through all of the years worth of crap I’d accumulated across multiple characters, I found something really old and probably insanely rare – Mark of the Champion.

Spell power! Remember that?

This was the quest reward for turning in The Phylactery of Kel’Thuzad, a drop from (yes, you guessed it) Kel’Thuzad in the original 40-man Naxxramas.

I’d love to be able to say that I did this at level 60 but that would be a total lie. Back in The Burning Crusade we had a weekly raid group on Bloodscalp-EU farming Naxxramas for the tier sets and we even managed to complete an Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian!

Sadly, I vendored what tier 3 items I had collected before transmog was a thing. This is probably the most expensive mistake I’ve ever made but hey, you live and you learn.
